New South Wales Solar Incentives

NSW Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Incentive

NSW homeowners with batteries can earn $400 to $1,500 by connecting to a Virtual Power Plant under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme.

Rebate amounts:

10kWh battery: $400-$500

27kWh battery: $1,000-$1,500

How it works:

Your battery is connected to a VPP network

During peak demand, your stored energy may be drawn to support the grid

Solar for Apartment Residents (SoAR) Grant

Multi-unit dwellings can access up to $150,000 per building to cover up to 50% of the cost of installing shared solar systems.

Eligibility:

Residential owners' corporations or body corporate

Apartment buildings and strata properties

Projects must be completed by October 2026

Queensland Solar Incentives

Queensland Solar Panel Rebate (STCs)

Queensland homeowners benefit from excellent sunshine, which means higher STC values, particularly in regional areas.

Regional advantage:

Brisbane (Zone 3): ~$2,000 for 6.6kW system

Regional QLD like Townsville, Cairns, Rockhampton (Zones 1-2): $2,000-$2,200 for 6.6kW system

Regional Queensland properties in Zones 1-2 may receive slightly higher rebates due to higher solar generation potential in those zones.

Queensland Solar for Rentals Programme

Landlords can receive up to $3,500 for installing solar on rental properties, reducing tenant electricity bills by approximately $700 annually.

SA Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Incentive

South Australia offers one of the most generous VPP incentives in Australia, up to $2,050 for connecting your battery to a REPS-approved Virtual Power Plant.

How it works:

Connect your battery to a participating VPP

Receive upfront payment for participation

Your battery helps stabilise the grid during peak demand

Can be stacked with federal battery rebate

Battery must be connected to REPS-approved VPP

Adelaide City Council Solar Incentive

Residents in Adelaide City and North Adelaide postcodes can access additional support:

Residential incentives:

20% discount on solar panel installation for concession card holders, tenants, and strata properties

50% rebate up to $1,000 for residential battery installations

Business incentives:

50% rebate up to $1,000 for battery installations

50% rebate up to $2,000 for replacing gas or wood-burning appliances with electric/solar

These local incentives can be stacked with federal rebates.

South Australia Feed-in Tariff

SA feed-in tariffs typically range from 6-10 cents per kWh. With South Australia's high retail electricity prices, solar provides exceptional value even with modest feed-in rates.
